Electricity & Natural Gas/Propane
Santee Cooper supplies electrical service to customers in Horry County through an interconnected network of 46 and 115 KV transmission lines. Customer services are provided through several local offices, including one in Conway.
Service to industrial customers is provided without regard to maximum or minimum demands. Depending on demands and load factor, attractive industrial rates are available, which compare favorably with those in other areas of the country. Load requirements are established in order to insure that the customer is served at the most advantageous rate.
Horry Electric Coop. serves industrial, commercial and residential customers in the unincorporated areas of Horry County. Service by this company also is provided to industrial firms with regard to maximum and minimum demands. Certain industrial customers meet requirements for economic development incentive rates. The cooperative, headquartered in Conway, is part of the Central Electric Power Cooperative System servicing 35 counties.
South Carolina Electric & Gas Company provides natural gas to Horry County. SCE&G is regulated by the South Carolina Public Service Commission for their rates, service, safety, and quality. SCE&G purchases gas from the Southern Natural Gas Company. Rates for large industrial users are subject to negotiation, with an engineering service available upon request to help any customer or prospective customer.
Water & Sewer
Public water and sewage systems are provided by the City of Conway, Grand Strand Water & Sewer Authority and Bucksport Water Systems . Rates are very favorable when compared with other areas in the country.
Telephone services are provided to the area by Verizon and HTC Both companies can provide service to industrial, commercial and residential services. Wireless services are also provided by HTC, Horizon, Alltel, Sprint and more. HTC also provides high-speed and dial-up internet service.
Television Cable service is provided locally by HTC, with over a hundred channels, digital cable, music channels, pay-per-view and interactive television. Both companies also provide high-speed internet as well.
Waste & Recycling
Horry County Solid Waste Authority provides integrated waste management to all the citizens of Horry County. The Solid Waste Authority also operates 20 convenience centers across the county where recyclables can be collected and then processed at a recycling facility operated by the authority.
In the city, City of Conway Public Works provides waste and yard debris pickup to residences. A number of waste management companies provide trash and yard debris pickup to residences and businesses in the Conway area.
