St. Nicholas Winterfest to Be Known as St. Nicholas BBQFest

Event Set for November 16 at Conway, SC Riverfront

Conway, SC–St. Paul’s Church in Conway, the founding sponsor of the St. Nicholas Winterfest, has announced that the festival has been renamed the St. Nicholas BBQFest. This year’s event will be held November 16 at the Conway Riverfront.
According to spokesperson, John Wilkins, the rebranding allows the festival’s core component, the SC BBQ Association sanctioned competitive cook-off, to play a larger role.  Open to the novice as well as the seasoned pit master, entries will be welcomed from throughout South Carolina and neighboring North Carolina.  “It will be a great event, said Wilkins, and a virtual war between the states.” The cook-off has been associated with the St. Nick’s event since inception. “It’s an annual favorite among festival goers as well as those participating,” he continued.

Barbara Dickens, St. Nicholas co-chair, is in hopes the two-state competition will bring additional dollars.

Now in its 9th year, the festival raises funds to support numerous community service organizations within the Conway area providing in excess of  $25,000 to local community service agencies. These include CAP, The Sheppard’s Table, The Friendship Clinic, Father’s Place, Neighbor to Neighbor, Fostering Hope and CASA. “As in the past, all proceeds from the St. Nicholas BBQFest will aid our neighbors in need,” Dickens said.

The Festival has become a holiday tradition for Conway and the surrounding area and has grown into a dynamic program featuring local entertainment, shopping, and culinary delights.

This year’s St. Nicholas BBQFest, slated from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on November 16, will include over 120 vendors featuring baked goods, jewelry, arts and crafts, and other merchandise.  According to Wilkins, inflatables, rides, a petting zoo, boat rides, games, and pony and train rides will be part of the festivities and have been designed for both the young and the young at heart. The event features live music opening with the Fabulous Sandsations leading up to the featured and ever-popular beach band, Tru-Soul.

St. Paul’s Church provides the organizational leadership and most of the volunteers to staff BBQFest events.  The community outreach effort pledges all of the net proceeds to deserving organizations, living up to their motto “A Heart for the Gospel and a Heart for People”.

Additional financial and product/services support comes from area business sponsors including Burroughs Company, Carolina Cool, News Channel 15 WPDE, Waccamaw Publishers, Duplicates Ink, HTC, PcRx Computer Sales & Service and Marketing Strategies Inc., as well as other local businesses and individuals.
