What A Girl Wants...

In my last column I mentioned that all February articles would focus on Chamber Champions of the Heart, so I hope you enjoy the next few stories we tell. First and foremost, February is the month of “love.” Valentine’s Day opens the door for our fellow men friends to walk through when perhaps they’ve slipped during prior months. We expect roses, candy, and at least a card with the word “Sweetheart” splashed across the cover, and then of course we also enjoy gift certificates to one of our local spas. There are so many gift ideas from which to choose.

You know us gals, we love to shop and luckily for the guys, Conway also offers a few upscale clothiers. Did you know that the girls at Izzi-b, located at 203 Main Street, can help identify the style that best suits us? Yes, what we think looks good can be turned into great with a little fashion sense and help from the pros. It’s amazing at what Lydia and Angela, owners of Izzi-b, know about style and fashion.

I visited not too long ago, and let me just say, that yes, I can fit into some of their trendy offerings. You don’t have to be supermodel size to be fashionable in the town of Conway.

Upon walking in, I immediately spotted their selection of denim…yes, I’m a freak for a new pair of jeans, and to my pleasure, Izzi-b offers a fabulous selection of flattering designer brands, including such names as Joe’s Jeans, which is by the way one of Oprah’s favorites, Seven for Mankind, and Habitual Jeans. What could have been an intimidating experience was what I consider fun. I learned so much from Lydia, one of the store’s owners and managing partners, about the new trends we’ll begin to see unfold over the next few months. These girls track what the celebrities are doing and either carry many of the items in the store or on Izzi-b’s website: www.izzi-b.com.

According to Lydia, the fashion forecast spotlights wide leg jeans and trousers, though the skinny leg is still considered classy. We’ll begin to see higher waists (thank God), as well as shorter hemlines. Brighter and metallic colored accessories are the “in” this year, along with ballet flats and high platforms. Patented leather will also make a grand comeback in shoes and accessories. You’ll notice more volume in skirts and blouses, meaning keep those romantic blouses out for springtime. Walking shorts worn with a wedge and a bright handbag will be something to boast in early spring. And don’t forget your white dress. It’s just as necessary as the little black one.

Talk about feeling good about yourself when you leave. Lydia and Angela certainly make you feel at home. They have fun with what they’re doing and they create for you an amazing shopping experience. And, to accommodate your busy schedule, they’ll even arrange special store hours just for you. To get a taste of Hollywood, drop in for a bit and let the gals show you around. Or join us for their grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration on February 23 @ 10 a.m. They certainly will tug at your heart strings and have you coming back for more…While you’re on Main Street, drop in and say hello to Marilyn at ParkSmith and Lynn at The Quality Shoppe. They, too, know what a girl wants, what a girl needs, what it is that makes us happy. Happy February from the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce.

Our Chamber Currents column is a weekly article that appears in Conway's local newspaper, The Horry Independent. The article is written our Executive Vice President Bridgette Johnson. Chamber Currents in an avenue by which we spotlight Chamber members, as well as highlight Chamber events and activities. We do hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it!
