Thank You For A Great Labor Day Event
What a wonderful Labor Day weekend in Conway! The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce would like to officially say thank you to Tripp Nealy and the folks at Independent Builders Development for allowing us to be a part of what turned out to be one of Conway’s most memorable events! A celebration for small business is something special — even to Chris Cagle. He personally contacted Tripp to thank him for doing something of this magnitude for his hometown and of course, offered to come again. Our question is — for free?
Several local businesses came on board to help support the Saturday night event. Elvis Services, Myrtle Beach Communications, Pully Bones Restaurant, WPDE TV-15, Holiday Inn Express, Anderson Brothers Bank, Graham Golf Cars, Inc., Conway Ford, First Citizens Bank, WBTW News 13, Webster Rogers Accounting, HTC, Palmetto Chevrolet, and Qantum Radio all joined in to see that the day’s mission — to celebrate the American Dream of small and independent business owners — was carried out. An estimated 9,000 onlookers showed up as well. It was amazing to see just how many folks could pack in around the Chris Cagle stage. He really put on a great show and I was truly impressed by the number of times he referenced IBD, Conway and South Carolina throughout his performance. Charlie Floyd and Black Label were excellent choices in opening bands. The crowd was primed by the time Chris hit the stage!
From the Chamber, we’d like to say thank you to our volunteers who sold beverages and helped manage the crowd. We couldn’t have done it without you. Many showed up to work a two-hour shift, but ended up staying the entire night to help out. You are priceless! I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the commitment and support we receive from the folks at Pepsi and Better Brands. You “bring it” no matter what, and work harder for our Chamber than anyone will ever know. Thank you for all you do. And to the City of Conway Public Works Department, the City of Conway Police Department, and the City of Conway Fire Department — we are all so proud to be affiliated with you guys! I am always honored to get the opportunity to work with you. Because of your professionalism and hearts of gold, Conway’s community events run as smoothly as possible. Folks just don’t know how much you guys do during our festivals.
At this point, our efforts will turn to our upcoming Annual Meeting. Scheduled for October 18 at 5:30, the event will be held once again at Horry Georgetown Technical College. During the event we spotlight four community award winners, all of whom are honored based on their dedication and commitment to our community. Chamber affiliation is not a prerequisite for award winners. We are currently accepting nominations for the LaVerne H. Creel Lifetime Achievement Award, The Rod & Harold McCown Man and Woman of the Year, as well as Youth Leader of the Year. Additionally, our Chamber will present four Chamber-oriented awards, including Volunteer of the Year, Board Member of the Year, Public Awareness Award, and Community Service Award. Please join us on October 18 and join us in honoring our award winners. Some lucky someone will even go home with a new golf cart, sponsored by Graham Golf Cars, Inc.
Additionally, feel free to join us at an upcoming Grand Opening celebration at the new Pet Pizazz, located on Mill Pond Road. We’ll host a ribbon cutting ceremony there this Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. Feel free to bring your pets for a day of treats and a lot of fun!
