LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD JELLO MIXERS

What a great time to be planning a summertime festival. Yes, that’s right, ‘Round The Fourth is just ‘round the corner. I cannot believe that summer is almost here. It seems to me that I just recently said, “Christmas will be here before you know it.” Now, it has passed and we’re on our way to warmer weather.

Last year, we brought back to the festival one of the crowd’s favorites — the Jello Jump! We welcomed over 100 children who jumped into teal-colored jello, sponsored by Coastal Carolina University. Their families watched in dismay as they surfaced covered in slimy, goopy jello. What a treat!

This year, we are in search for a few good men and women to sponsor the jello jump. The way it works is this: The Conway Chamber will purchase the gelatin and food color of your choice. What you will be responsible for is making the jello two to three days prior to the festival (which makes for a wonderful team builder experience among staff). We coordinate the location for you as well. Then on the morning of the festival, you will meet at the location and coordinate the delivery of the jello to the festival area. At that time, you’ll manage the 100 kids and their families as they jump into the jello. It’s quite fun and yes, a little sticky.

I’m telling you this so that any civic group, non-profit organization, or business who would like a little publicity and is willing to get involved in the community, can step up and volunteer. We promise you a good time, as well as a taste of good will.

In addition to our jello jump, we’ve got quite a day of activities planned. The event is sponsored by Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and Heritage Preserves – A Centex Homes Community. It is co-sponsored by HTC and Independent Builders Development. Other named sponsors include The Conway National Bank, Dr. Jen Butler Orthodontics, First Federal Bank, Chris Johnson Nationwide Insurance, Bridge Towne Real Estate, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Time Warner Cable, First Citizens Bank, John C. Zilinsky, The City of Conway, Cumulus, WPDE, The Horry Independent, Eastern Sales Company, Better Brands, Anderson Brothers Bank, Palmetto Chevrolet, Conway Medical Center, Surfwater Promotions, Palmetto Memorial Funeral Services, Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union, Riverwalk Grille, Gary’s Pumping Service, Sam’s Club, Holiday Inn Express, Carolina Southern Railroad, and Graham Golf Cars, Inc.

We’re all looking forward to a successful event. A special thank you to all who are sponsoring and all who plan to volunteer. Without the support you give, we wouldn’t be able to host such an exciting event for our community. Happy Spring from the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce.
