CHAMBER PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE TO GET INVOLVED

During September, the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce held our Board Retreat for new and current Board Members at the Horry County Solid Waste Authority. What an appropriate location as we begin this fiscal year by throwing away our “old way of looking at things.”

We host a retreat each year so that members of our board grow more comfortable with one another, as well as gain a better understanding of where we’re headed as a Chamber of Commerce. This year, we challenged our Board Members to serve beyond the boundaries of what is considered our traditional role as a Chamber and to help support the vision of Conway’s Chamber of Commerce as a valuable community resource.

With the leadership of this year’s incoming president, Scott Sayre of Bridge Towne Real Estate, we will strive to live up to the theme, “Leading Business, Leading Community.” I can think of no better concept for this coming year. Think about it, we’re the first place many new residents to our area stop to pick up information on Conway. We’re also the first stop many new business owners make to ask how we can help promote their products and services. Now, beyond that, what we can challenge ourselves to do to better serve our community? We’ve got new ideas and a fresh approach that will be unveiled during this year’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 19 at the Horry Georgetown Technical College’s Café 1100.

Of course, all good ideas and missions take time and the support of our community. That’s why we’re asking that you get involved. We know it takes time and effort, and above all others, courage to stand up and lead our community in a new direction, into a new light. We are your platform to have a say in the way things happen in Conway. Not too sure you like the way a festival is planned and managed? Get involved. Not sure the Chamber’s services quite suit your business needs? Get involved and help establish new services. Not sure that we’re referring your business enough? Volunteer to spend a day behind our desks and see what it is that we do for you on a day to day basis. You’d be surprised at what you will learn and have a hand in planning if you just volunteer to help serve your community. We are the organization that represents your business, your community, your hometown.

Give us a call at 248-2273 or drop by our office at 203 Main Street in Conway’s beautiful historic downtown and let us help you get involved. We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Our Chamber Currents column is a weekly article that appears in Conway's local newspaper, The Horry Independent. The article is written our Executive Vice President Bridgette Johnson. Chamber Currents in an avenue by which we spotlight Chamber members, as well as highlight Chamber events and activities. We do hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it!
