Chamber Member Offers Alternative Approach to Health Care

How does the phrase “alternative health care” make you feel? Does it inspire you to learn more? Personally, I’ve always been a little curious as to how certain foods, herbs and vitamins can affect our bodies and how mediation, exercise or even acupuncture can relieve stressors in our lives. An alternative approach to my health. Back to the basics. The natural approach. I find it all very appealing, but you know, I’ve often put my health on the back burner because other things have taken priority.

Recently, Alternative Health Clinic joined the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, so I gave Dr. John D. Cochran, D.C. a call to learn more about what he defines as “alternative.” To my surprise, I was blown away by all that he and Dr. Jin Li Dong, do in their clinic, which is located at 1705 Highway 501 in Conway.

As I spoke with Dr. Cochran, a Spartanburg, S.C. native, his passion for what he does became so apparent. He went into detail on a number of special procedures his office offers and invited me in for an in-depth interview of the services they provide. For a backgrounder, Dr. Cochran joined forces with Dr. Dong to provide chiropractic care and acupuncture to the Conway area. A graduate of the Citadel, Dr. Cochran obtained his chiropractic degree from Sherman Collage of Chiropractic. He is board eligible as a diplomate in chiropractic rehabilitation. Together with Dr. Dong, he addresses issues such as acute and chronic pain, anxiety, cancer related symptoms, depression, disc problems, headaches, strokes, allergies, sinus concerns, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, fibromyalgia, sciatica, TMJ, among others.

When speaking with Dr. Cochran, I learned that alternative health care is not a mainstream approach, but one taken from a nutritional standpoint. Many health issues can be controlled strictly through what we put into our bodies. Dr. Cochran, himself, recently underwent a liver, kidney, and lung detoxification process, which additionally helped him to drop 25 pounds in as little as 3 weeks.

Through nutritional counseling and chiropractic rehabilitation, the clinic educates patients on how to stay fit and maintain healthy eating habits. Much attention has been paid to our growing elderly community. Dr. Cochran has spoken to several groups on nutritional topics, and has recently agreed to teach classes at Lakeside Crossing, a 55+ community. Additionally, he writes articles for Transitions Magazine, and has also been published in Parenting and Carolina Woman magazines.

Alternative Health Clinic also offers patients access to a number of medical machines, one of which is called the hypobaric chamber used on stroke and cancer patients to increase their oxygen levels.

According to Dr. Cochran, Alternative Health Clinic is looking to become the foremost alternative health care provider in the community. Patients who have experienced the limitations of standard medical procedures are invited to visit the clinic and learn of other avenues by which to feel better.
