Chamber Currents

A LIFETIME OF ACHIEVEMENT

Once upon a time there was a young lady named LaVerne Creel who worked well with her local business leaders. In 1958, she helped to reorganize and charter a special organization, The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, just for business people.

Today, LaVerne Creel continues to support the Chamber and the business community and serves as a true ambassador for the City of Conway. Not long ago, the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce presented her with a community award entitled the LaVerne H. Creel Lifetime Achievement Award, named as such for her efforts to grow the business community and her help in creating a positive business atmosphere within Conway.

Since that time, others in our community have been recognized with the LaVerne H. Creel Lifetime Achievement Award, including G. Heyward Goldfinch, Sr., Dr. Edward L. Proctor, George Williams, Sr., William F. Davis, Willis J. Duncan, George N. McGrath, Sr., Eugene Cater Floyd, Catherine H. Lewis, W.M. “Mac” Goldfinch, Hubert C. Watson, Emma Lou Thompson Johnson, Frank A. Thompson, II, Rod McCown and Edward M. Singleton.

Now is the time to send in your nominations for the LaVerne H. Creel Lifetime Achievement Award. There are no rules or guidelines and a nominee does not have to be affiliated with the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. This is a community award, presented to individuals who have shown support of our overall community. Who are they?

In addition to the LaVerne H. Creel Lifetime Achievement Award, the Rod & Harold Sun News Man and Woman of the Year, as well as Conway’s Youth Leader of the Year awards will be presented during the Conway Chamber’s Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, October 19 at Horry Georgetown Technical College’s Café 1100. Once again, we’ll roll out the red carpet for our community award winners and treat them as the “stars” that they are!

Please continue to send in your nominations. These nomination forms are kept sealed until presented to our community awards advisory committee, which is made up of a very diverse group of local business leaders.

You are our community and we’d like to express our appreciation for the hard work and invaluable efforts you put forth to the betterment of the quality of life in Conway. We’re listening and we hear you.

Please join us on October 19 as we recognize these individuals. Call the Conway Chamber office at 248-2273 for ticket information.
